Today I am at home tucked up in bed with all my cold & flu drugs and hoping to get better ASAP! I hate being ill 😦
Today in my blog post I’m going to be telling you all about the Dermalogica Bio Surface Facial Peel that has just been launched in Ireland and is available at Marie Quinn Health & Beauty
I was contacted by Marie Quinn Health & Beauty back in August and invited in to try out this treatment before it was available in Ireland, but due to the nature of the treatment and the aftercare advice which states to avoid direct sunlight for sometime as the sun can effect the results, it was recommended that I wait until after my holidays to have the treatment done, so I was booked in for November 1st and couldn’t wait to have it done after reading up about it in detail!
So let me tell you a little more about it….
What is BioSurface Facial Peel?
It is a treatment that will resurface your skin. It will help to reduce breakouts, pigmentation and signs of premature aging and will give your smoother, brighter and softer skin. This peel brought to us by the Dermalogica experts is designed to work with your skins chemistry and not against it. What that means is, it’s applied for the correct amount of time to safely remove dull outer layers of your skin, and your skin underneath will do the work to regenerate to give you brighter and healthier skin.
Who needs this treatment?
The BioSurface peel would be suited to anybody who has the following skin concerns :
– Breakouts / Acne Prone Skin
– Acne Scarred skin
– Fine lines & Wrinkles
– Skin congestion
– Skin roughness
– Dull skin
I headed into Marie Quinn Health & Beauty on Saturday and met with Nicolle who was my therapist for treatment. Nicolle was so welcoming and such a lovely girl! She was so professional and you could tell that she was so passionate about this treatment and was bursting with knowledge about the treatment. She knew everything about it inside out, and I straight away had confidence in her carrying out such a complex treatment.
I have heard horror stories about facial peels and how your face is inflamed and red raw after having them done, to the point where you have to stay indoors for up to a week after having them done, but Nicolle filled me in on this one and assured me that with the BioSurface Peel, you will get the same powerful results with this as the other extreme ones, without the listed risks above.
Before heading in for my treatment, I completed and signed a consent for which included confirmation that I would follow the aftercare advice, which I will get to later in the posts.
After a Dermalogica signature double cleanse the peel treatment begins and there is 4 steps to the treatment.
Step 1. This is a prep solution which is 20% salicylic acid. This clears out the pores
Step 2. This is the enzyme active. This step is what loosens the dead skin cells from the live ones, which is what causes the skin look dull
Step 3. This is where the acid active is applied. The acid active is 20% lactic acid making it very active and this is the step that evens skin tone, rehydrates the skin and encourages cell renewal. It was during this step that I felt my face tingle, and Nicolle very cleverly has a little hand held fab that she uses over the face to distract from the tingling sensation and keeping the face feeling cool.
Step 4. For this step the de-celerater is applied. It’s the calming step and it neutralises all acid activity. It can feel slightly popping on the skin, however, for me it just felt like a mask on my skin and I didn’t feel the popping sensations.
Once all 4 steps were completed Nicolle used an ultra calming mist, multivitamin power firm around my eyes and then some intensive moisture balance mixed with a physical sun screen (super sensitive sheild) and then barrier cream.
Nicole gave me a mirror once the treatment was finished and I couldn’t believe the instant difference! My skin was so much brighter and any fine lines had pretty much vanished, but what I noticed most was my pores, they were completely invisible! Before I had this done my pores were quite big and noticeable without any make up on, so this is what I was so pleased about! Take a look at my Before, During & After pictures below…
The 72 hour aftercare regime is very much a part of the treatment itself. In order to get maximum results from this peel you must stick strictly to the aftercare advice given. Nicolle gave me the aftercare kit which is included in the price of the treatment and taught me how to use it correctly.
You need to stick to the aftercare regime and use the Dermalogica products provided to ensure your skin does not have a reaction.
I am now on day 3 and my skin is glowing and I have found the products in the aftercare pack excellent. Below is a photo I took last night after cleansing and applying my barrier repair cream. My complexion has not been this good in years!!
My skin is starting to flake a little now which is how it should be going and I can’t wait to see how it is after the full 10 days following the treatment. I will post a full updated review at that stage to let you know how I got on and my final thoughts on my first treatment.
It is recommended to have 3 peels done to get maximum results, however lots of people like me, will see dramatic differences after just one treatment.
