Find your hair soul mate!

In life we all need that person we can trust, put our faith in and who will put our worries at ease. They’re your confidante, your go to person who will give you that pick me up.  That’s right I’m talking about your hairdresser!

Let’s be honest our hair is as important as our brows and neither look good ungroomed. The search for the right one is up there with the search for the last bottle of your favourite foundation in your shade, which is why I’m so glad I found mine and in the most random of places too! Those of you who have been to Australia know how much of a small place it can be. I found this out when I bumped into Lynn a girl I only knew from passing from at home but upon seeing all the way over in Oz had to go and speak to! We soon got chatting and was delighted when Lynn a qualified hairdresser offered to cut my hair. After 5 months away and some diy colour jobs it was in dire straits! She looked after me for my next 5 months away and we soon became firm friends!

I was devasted when Lynn’s Australian boss asked her to stay on longtime, it was bad enough returning to Ireland but to unruly hair too! My disappointment didn’t last long as she soon returned home to Ireland and has since opened her own salon which is located in Carlisle Gym in Kimmage.

I’ve been going there for the last 5 years and love the service I get.  I’m always given such great advice when looking to make a change from my Kourtney K blunt fringe phase to my ballyage phase and last year’s big cut. I hadn’t cut more than a couple of inches from my long hair since I was 12. It was before my confirmation when I had my hair cut short and my mother cried her eyes out, I kid you not!

I wanted to go for the chop for a while but was always scared to as I loved being able to style my long hair. Lynn convinced me to go for it and I haven’t regretted it for a second!

When I was younger I was left with many disappointing hair colours and cuts and let’s be honest, when you’ve paid an arm and leg to have it done there is nothing worse!! I would hate the same to happen to anyone else so here are some tips I’ve come up with to help find your hair soul mate aka hairdresser and avoid that disaster cut!

🔸 Big brand name hairdressers does not always mean better – When I first started looking for a hairdresser, like with clothes and makeup I immediately gravitated towards bigger brand names. Now if you find the right hairdresser within the salon they can be great but I found there was no personal touch and you were given to whoever was free (usually lesser qualified) and I ended up not happy with my hair. The smaller salons have staff just as qualified if not more as they’d enough talent to branch out on their own. Plus the prices are usually more reasonable.
🔸Don’t be afraid to ask to see some of the salons previous work. Most have Facebook pages now and you can see previous cuts and styles they’ve done.
🔸Be confident with what you want. It’s fine if you want to look for advice but don’t feel railroaded into anything you don’t want. Trust me your hairdresser won’t mind if you decide to pick a different color to what they’ve suggested.
🔸Do ask for advice – so a little contradictory to the point of above but I often looked at the latest celeb cut and thought hmm that’s nice I’ll ask for that, but will it suit you? A good hairdresser will know what styles suit what faces etc so ask for guidance.
🔸 Bring pics – if you have seen a style you like, bring some pics. It can be hard to describe a cut you’ve seen and you don’t want to be disappointed because of crossed wires so bring a picture of the style you’ve seen. Don’t assume the hairdresser will know the actress your talking about.
🔸Build a rapport with your hairdresser – you’ll feel a lot more comfortable in asking advice and will trust their recommendations if you build a relationship with them. They’ll get to know you and what you like and you’ll in turn trust them with your precious locks.

Last but most importantly when you find the hairdresser for you, stick to them like extension glue!!

If you’ve yet to find yours I can’t recommend Lynn’s salon enough. I love my hair at the minute but if I start to miss my long locks Lynn is a qualified in great lengths extensions. They have to be some of the best extensions I’ve ever seen. Check out some pictures of her work below.
