Highlighters are the serious buzzword of the beauty world at the minute. I myself can’t remember the last time I didn’t finish off a makeup look with a swoop of my favourite highlighter to add an extra layer of glow to my base. In response to this it feels like beauty brands are bringing out new highlighters every week and sometimes it can be hard to choose the right one, or even know what you’re looking for! Today I’m comparing two of the most famous highlighters out there, both slightly on the higher end of the pricing scale to see which buy is worth the splurge- if you can resist buying both!
theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer (€21.50)
Buy it here.
So, is it worth the hype? For starters, the texture is so smooth, soft like butter & extremely pigmented. This is a highlighter that HIGHLIGHTS in a serious way, no subtle shimmer here this guy is full on and I love it! Mary-Lou Manizer brings so much light to the face without adding any chunky glitter
and the colour is perfect for me. It’s a golden champagne colour that works as well on pale Irish skin as it does under a golden glow.
Look at the pigmentation on this stuff!
The texture is very similar to Urban Decay Eyeshadows in that it’s effortless. I’d definitely recommend using a small brush with to focus it on specific areas rather than dusting it anywhere and everywhere- it’s seriously glowy. I’ve also been using it as a brow/inner corner highlighter-this baby does it all! One serious negative I’ve heard about but have been lucky enoug h to escape is the smashing of the powder-a side effect of it being so finely milled.
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle (€31)
Buy it here.
First off, despite the hefty price tag the amount of product you get for your cash here is actally phenomenal. You get a huge 10g for €31- so you won’t be hitting pan on this baby any time soon! Although described by MAC as a “gilded peach bronze” I find this product to be more of a glittery, champagne, peach, beige shade. It is quite warm in tone, which means it works best on medium to darker skin tones or with a good layer of Cocoa Brown. This product is more of a WOW highlighter than the Mary-Lou Manizer and slightly coarser in texture, meaning that it shows up much more obvious
in photographs. I’ve also found it to be really long lasting, I applied it in the morning time and it was still hanging around at 8pm.
When it boiled down to choosing a favourite I was really hard pushed but if i’m being really honest with myself I do reach for the Mary-Lou Manizer more regularly. It just gives the WOW factor without being too obvious, is a bit of a multitasker and comes in at a cool €10 less than the MAC highlighter.
